Side by Side is a volunteer-driven community outreach program serving the northwest section of Hamilton County. Our mission is simple: serve our neighbors, share our gifts, and support our community. We accomplish this by mobilizing volunteers and partnering with local organizations to meet practical needs and build stronger community relationships.
Side by Side has 9 programs serving youth and families in Northwest Cincinnati. The
youth programs are ALLSTARS (1-on-1 tutoring of 45 children every week for 22 weeks at Taylor Elementary in the Northbrook neighborhood of Colerain Township), STARS (1-on-1 mentoring of 12 students now in the 6 th grade at our site The HUB, also 22 weeks), DASH –we provide community service hours and supervise students referred by the Hamilton County Justice Center (typically has 4 students a week, 4-6 hours in lieu of time in the Detention Center) and Young Life Ambassador program where we offer meals, space for Bible Study and programs to Northwest High School YL. This has grown from 9 to 45 students in attendance at The HUB. Last, we provided Faith & Community scholarships to deserving students annually.
Our family programs include The HUB distribution program of food and household
items to over 20 local small pantries. Our facility can accommodate Box Truck
Deliveries, and we have provided over $2.5 Million worth of goods into the community. Our Book by Book Literacy program has provided over 850,000 books in the Northwest Cincinnati area. Our Community Service program works with People
Working Cooperatively to fix up homes on aging in place and disabled homeowners in our neighborhoods. We are launching a program to provide English classes to
immigrant parents of children in the Northwest Local School District. For perspective,
this is the third most culturally diverse district in the State of Ohio with 35 different
groups with English as a second language – including 500 Hispanic students, 300
Nepali and growing Syrian refugee population.
As a completely volunteer-run program, all funds raised go directly into the neighborhoods we serve. Side by Side welcomes new partnerships and volunteers who want to make a lasting impact in the community.
